4L80E TRANSMISSION INFORMATION

   At CK Performance we are the originators of the performance GM4L80E transmission.We are the only company that offers a functioning forward pattern full manual valve body with transbrake for this transmission.All of our competition components are designed and manufactured in house on the latest HAAS CNC equiptment.All of our competition components are proprietary designs specific only to our unique product line.Each GM4L80E transmission is DYNOMOMETER TESTED and then  installed in our 1991 GMC Suburban 454 test vehicle and given a thorough road test before being placed in stock to guarantee product performance to our customers.This repetative  DYNOMOMETER and in vehicle testing allow us to constantly refine our product,creating an evolutionary cycle that produces a superior product.All of our 4L80E transmissions require NO CORE CHARGE.

   The baseline COMPETITION GM4L80E is built for heavy duty towing, off road,street/strip, and drag racing vehicles producing up to 650  horsepower/550 foot pounds of torque,and can handle up to 1500 horsepower /1200 plus lbs. ft. with the addition of our custom internal components.Our power ratings are given at the flywheel and are given with maximum component life in mind.

  The GM4L80E transmission is the strongest production GM overdrive unit currently available.The transmission is basically a GMTH400 with the addition of an overdrive gear ,and a lock up style torque converter.The standard gear ratios are 2.48/1.48/1.0/.75 overdrive.Custom ratios are also available and a general description of there intended usage is found under"OPTIONAL EQUIPTMENT".For customers who prefer automatic shift operation,the transmission requires a stand alone computer to control shifting.For customers who prefer manual shift operation,the transmission DOES NOT require a computer.Both automatic and manual transmissions are available with transbrake if desred.  Some vehicles factory equipt with a GM4L60E,4L65E,or 4L70E can retain the factory computer to control shift scheduling after a reflash.Some aftermarket engine management systems have the capabilities to control the GM4L80E transmission.Transmission electronics are all replaced with premium A and B shift solenoids,TCC solenoid,pressure control solenoid,pressure manifold switch ,input and output sensors,and internal wiring harness.

COMPETITION COMPONENTS
Heavy Duty direct drum with  premium 34 element sprag and spiral retaining ring. CK PERFORMANCE exclusive direct drum stabilizer package.A custom bronze bushing is fitted to the inside diameter of the direct drum.The drum end outside diameter of the forward clutch hub is precision ground to fit the inside diameter of the bushing.Becuase the forward clutch hub is held on center by the mainshaft the direct drum is forced to run on center,reducing drum wobble,a major problem in the GM4L80E series transmissions.This greatly improves the durability of the sprag assembly.Heavy duty intermediate clutch snap ring. Rollerized forward clutch hub and output shaft. New factory  deep pan and high flow filter.

CLUTCH AND BAND UPGRADES
Maximum capacity clutch packs standard with Borg Warner high energy frictions. Clutch pack selection and set up is engineered to maximize shift quality,apply and release timing ,and give long term durability. New carbon fiber front and rear bands.

HYDRAULIC UPGRADES
Increased line and lubrication pressures. Modified converter charge circuit corrects converter flow and volume related transmission problems.Sun gear shaft and gear set modifications greatly improve lubrication system over the factory design.Graphite sealing rings installed on the pump and center support.  Dual feed direct clutch triples clutch apply pressure.CK PERFORMANCE exclusive CNC machined steel line boost valve generates 185 max psi in forward ranges and reverse.This corrects the parts failures that result from excessive line pressures. Custom  valve body with CK PERFORMANCE shift recalibration kit.New  CK PERFORMANCE exclusive  redesigned seperator plate.
